Accidents do happen. Sometimes, it's bad luck - wrong place at the wrong time. But the good news - or bad news depending on how you see it - is human error is the single biggest cause of accidents. This means many accidents are preventable.

Prevention is about reducing risks in your everyday life.

Make sure your home is safe. More than a third of all accidents requiring hospital treatments occur in the home. Faulty appliances, poorly arranged furniture and trip hazards can have serious outcomes. Make sure you get your gas appliances checked regularly.

Be properly equipped. If you are engaging in sports, you need the proper kit. Demanding activities require protective equipment. Many injuries occur due the wrong footwear.

Many accidents are related to alcohol and drugs. Drink-driving, drownings and falls take many lives each year.

Make sure your studying environment is safe (ex chemistry labs) and report hazards to the relevant authorities.
