Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is the most common form of violence committed
against women. Abusers and victims come from all social class, racial/ethnic
background and occupations.
Women’s Aid Federation describes domestic violence
as:
“…physical, emotional, sexual and other abuse
by someone (usually but not always a man) of a person (usually but
not always a woman) with whom they have or have had some form of
some form of intimate relationship.”
Violence can be perpetuated in the form of physical
attacks, threats of physical attacks, verbal abuse, intimidation
(such as threats against the woman’s children) and denial of mobility
(for example, not allowing someone to leave the house or attend
classes).
